Grand Canyon Restaurants and Dining

(Grand Canyon, Arizona - AZ, USA)

You may find the choice of eateries, restaurants and dining venues at the Grand Canyon quite surprising. There is a good selection quality restaurants in the Grand Canyon area, serving up some truly delicious European dishes as well as traditional American steak or chops.

Fast food and Native American restaurants are also available at reasonable prices in the Grand Canyon, but the pick of the bunch is the El Tovar on the South Rim. Dining at the various camps on both rims ranges from do-it-yourself cooking to basic diner food, while the Phantom Ranch inside the canyon offers breakfast, lunch and dinner for overnighters.

Opening Hours

Some dining establishments and restaurants open their doors for early risers in the Grand Canyon as early as 06:00 and generally stay open right through lunch and dinner before closing at about 22:00. The restaurant at the El Tovar Hotel opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the kitchen does close between meal times. Venues specializing in dinner only tend to open at about 16:00 and close at 21:00 or 22:00.

Wine and Beer

The Grand Canyon is not exactly Las Vegas with regards to eating and drinking establishments. However, the Grand Canyon Lodge restaurant on the North Rim and the El Tovar Hotel on the South Rim are your best choices for scoring some decent wine to wash down your lunch and dinner. If you are staying at one of the more established camps in the Grand Canyon, such as Mather or North Rim, liquor is available at site stores, while the Canyon Village Marketplace on the South Rim and the North Rim General Store also sell alcohol.

Breakfast

If your campground hasn't got the facilities or you don't fancy cooking yourself, there are many places where you can enjoy an inexpensive breakfast in the Grand Canyon. The South Rim wins hands down for selection and price, with many all-day cafés, sandwich bars and hotel restaurants, while the North Rim is more limited in choice.

Lunch

Most people will be out and about during lunch hours and if you are hankering for some traditional American fast food, head for Tusayan, just outside the South Entrance of the Grand Canyon's South Rim. Here you will find all the usual fast-food chains. The Canyon Village Deli has great sandwiches and salads in the Grand Canyon Village, while North Rim dining options include the Grand Canyon Lodge and Café.

Dinner

If you are staying on the Grand Canyon's North Rim and are on a budget, then stocking up before you get to the park and cooking for yourself is a good ideal. Alternatively, you can make use of the takeaway restaurants and diners in the campgrounds. Dining options on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon are more plentiful, with many hotel restaurants and fast food chains located in Tusayan. The best restaurants for evening dining on the South Rim are the Arizona Room, with its delicious steak and marvelous views, and the El Tovar Hotel Restaurant, which boasts fine dining in an authentic building.
